Story was one of ugliness and evil events. My uncle was killed some where during this march; to the enemy he was just another "person without face." As difficult as it was to read, the book was a part of American history that should live on in the hearts of all Americans. Thanks to all of our "Greatest Generation."
I came across the author's story online several years back. I'm glad to have purchased his book. God bless Mr. Dyess and all the soldiers who made it as well as those who didn't make it. God bless America.
A riveting account of first person experience in WWII. Men survive torture, jungle, deprivation at the hand of the Japs in the Phillipines during WWII.Excellently written, a true and tragic account 0f imprisonment after surviving the Bataan death march.
A good read. We should always remember what they went through
Book arrived in great condition!
I had heard of the Bataan Death March but I was unaware of the brutality administered by the Japanese soldiers. I knew the soldiers had to overcome the heat, humidity, starvation and the long marches but to bear witness to impromptu executions and inhumane beatings of your fellow countrymen is enough to make a normal man crumble. Colonel Dyess did not survive the war but his recollection of Bataan will live forever. .
I enjoyed the book and it was a good read. Having been stationed in the Philippines and having been to a luncheon with a US Army Bataan Death March survivor as our speaker, I believe Captain Dyess portrayed the treatment by the Japanese as accurate.
