It was okay. I liked the story taking place in Vienna but with only the "old biddies" along it was somewhat flat. Would have been more fun and more realistic if, along with the OBs, Cassie had joined her or her other male friend - forget his name but he has a crush on Cassie. Anyway, I found it sort of blah to only have them to play off. That said, the sauna scene was too funny and wouldn't have been the same without the OBs.There were interesting characters in the form of other hotel guests - they provided some lift to the story, along with possibilities in terms of the murderer. I found Gemma's behavior with Mei Mei more than a little bit off though. First, I can't believe any parents in this day and age would allow their child to go off with a virtual stranger no matter where she was educated. It also seemed out of character to me that Gemma would lie and deceive the parents even if she felt the ends justified the means. Yes, when all was said and done she was sorry but it felt completely off to me.Like the other 3 star review, this won't put me off Ms Hanna's books - I liked this one, didn't love it, but in general find her books absolutely charming and fun to read. I look forward to the next book in this series and the next in the "Bewitched by Chocolate" series as well.

All of us have favorite desserts that we tease and say, 'Its to die for.' What happens if a dessert might actually be? Well, that is exactly what went through my mind as I read this title. The Strudel plays throughout the book, but you will be surprised at it's real purpose there. I was.Gemma Rose, owner of the Little Stables Tearoom, is England's winner for tearooms. The ceremony is in Vienna, Austria. Gemma is regretful, but delighted that she is to be in Malta with her love for vacation...He cancels for work.Vienna here Gemma, and to her surprise, the Little Ole' Biddies, all four of them, come! Gemma and gang are staying at Gemma's mother's friends hotel. A beautiful upscale boutique hotel. They are thrilled. Glenda even finds a gentleman who invites her to dine with him.Until the screaming begins...said suitor is dead! Glenda is besides herself, and the Biddies are off to investigate. The Austrian police have labeled it a suicide. Nope, they know better. Gemma is roped in. There are Spa visits not to be missed (oh boy that was a surprise scene.) There are possible art forgeries, there are the precious Royal Lipizaner's 'Airs Above The Ground,' and underground railroads. There is a murderer as well. Then, the tourists and hotel residents. All this surrounded with luscious desserts and coffees.This book was great reading. I'm so fond of the horses and was lucky to have seen them perform in Las Vegas years ago. I have never forgotten the experience, so this book was tailored to me.Ms. Hanna never writes a mediocre book. She has the ability to grab the reader, put them in a gentle environment, lull them into a cozy mood, and wham! Humor, action, and a darn good murder mystery occurs. What more can you want? A recipe for Apple Strudel and Ms. Hanna gives us one at the ending. Muesli, the kitty is vastly important in this book, as well. Keep an eye on her.Enjoy, Enjoy, Enjoy!!!

I was eagerly anticipating this book when I preordered it months before. But I was so disappointed. First, it felt more like a guidebook to Vienna, rather than a mystery. And then there were the characters! The Old Biddies are always guaranteed to be a good time, and the sauna scene was hilarious, but even their usual antics seemed subdued. The rest of the cast was so unlikeable and flat. The murder victim was an arrogant, obnoxious jerk, and by the end I really didn't care who did it. I hope this book was just a one off, because I love the rest of the series.

I’ve enjoyed this series to this point, but this book fell short. It reminded me of television series- when they run out of stories in the established village, they start shipping the heroine around the world, hoping to generate new interest. This never works, and usually signifies the beginning of the end - “jumping the shark”, if you will. Sending Gemma to Vienna was a drag. I missed the quaint village in the Cotswolds, as well as the established characters. Being introduced to all new characters was depressing. Sure, the Old Biddies came along, but they weren’t enough to carry the plot. Don’t know why the author even bothers to mention Devlin, as he doesn’t seem to be of any use anymore. Clearly, there’s nothing left between him and Gemma. Sad. I’ve already purchased Book 9, so I’ll read it in the hope that this story and it’s characters get back on track.

This was a surprise. I wasn't to sure how having Gemma going on a trip without Devlin was going to play out yet it works perfectly. The old biddies are up to their sleuthing and the description of Gemma and them in the spa is a hoot. Especially Ethel's comment.And the talk of the Sacher Tort and all the Viennese pastries has given me the desire to run to the kitchen and begin baking. Or running to the kitchen and watching Great British Baking Show while having a cup of coffee.Either way H.Y. Hannah has again captured a feeling of being in an idyllic place and hanging around with fun characters while never having to leave your home.And a bonus, Apple Strudel recipe.

I have always enjoyed reading each new book in this series but was really disappointed with this one. The plot seemed forced and contrived in order to give us a travelogue of Vienna. I found it hard to remain interested and ultimately didn't care which of the two-dimensional and unsympathetic characters did the murder. Taking Muesli the cat to an Austrian hotel for a few days from England seems silly and a cruel - why would Gemma just not leave her with her parents as usual?! Usually I giggle a lot when reading these books but only the bit in the sauna raised a smile this time. I really hope we are back in the tearoom next book with the usual mystery and characters and that this disappointing book is a one-off.

Luis Angel is a memory champion like no other. He is very sincere in his mission to help others and with this book he does exactly what the title mentions. He shows you how to memorize effectively and easily. I had the pleasure of watching him compete in tournaments and win titles with his powerful memory. I mention this to show you that he uses everything he teaches. If you want to improve your memory then this book is an absolute must.

I bought this book because I use and study memory systems. I own many good books on the subject.The reason i bought it was due to the high reviews and praise.I just finished packing it up so it can be returned.Truly, this book is not what it is advertised to be.The author is way into self-promotion and actually begs readers to go online and give him positive reviews and pump him and his business up.Whatever he may have achieved in memory training is minimal. This book is a repackaging of basic memory teachings which are found in many other books on the subject. He even says at the start that he learned all of this from a course he bought.The man can't write. His grammar is atrocious. It is painful to read his prose; stilted, wooden, completely unedited as it is.The actual book is a pastiche of stuff that is so common and so poorly presented that I wonder where the people who wrote good reviews were coming from.Do yourself a favor and look to other authors like Dominic O'Brien, Harry Lorayne, Odbjorn By, Dean Vaughn, to mention just a few, who can write, are literate, and have something to really offer.This book is trash and you need to steer clear of it.

One of the best memory books out right now. Luis has a lot of insight in this world and it was great to learn from him and his experiences as a memory athlete.

Great book recommend it to everyone who wants to learn to use their brain better than ever thought possible

This book is incredible! The techniques used in this are wonderful and definitely work. The only problem is not with the material, its with the user. You actually have to put in work to learn and use these techniques. Some give up or don't see the connection on how these can actually benefit you in the long term. Learn from Luis Angel, this guy really knows what he is talking about. Stick with the techniques until they become a natural part of how your mind works and you will not be disappointed. There is a reason why he was a Memory Champion guys. He is willingly giving you a shortcut.

A great book written with the reader in mind. Also, combine with Luis's book on "Rember Names." Luis has a way of explaining a complex subject in easy to understand terms. He makes it fun to learn again.

Luis knows his stuff and has helped me immeasurably.. It is great fun using his techniques to improve my memory. I can't thank him enough.

This book is amazing for anyone who has any interest in proving their memory. I watched the author win the SuperHuman show on Fox and I also listen to his podcast. He is amazing.

I had read excerpts from this book years ago and decided to order the book. It's a good read, exciting, some have suggested TOO exciting, ie exaggerated, but nice to have if you like antique books, old travel books, Pacific islands, etc. If you're really into this subject the book can be read fairly quickly.

I enjoyed it very much. It was written so long ago, 1922, things were so different in those times. Would like to have the other six of his books avaliable for my Kindle.

I partially read Osa Johnson's account, "I Married Adventure" which covered the same New Hebrides adventure her husband, Martin, writes about in "Cannibal-Land". What a difference in writing styles. Martin is a man of few words with one single mission--to prove that cannibalism was being practiced in the South Seas around 1919. Indeed it was, and budding photographer Martin captures those moments and more, which he shares in books, film footage and lectures throughout the world. His escapades are exciting--I only wish Martin had elaborated more. His simple writing style is very matter-of-fact, whereas Osa's overdramatic rendition included many unimportant details (usually about herself swooning or fainting). Something in-between would have made the perfect book.Regardless, these two certainly complemented each other. Martin was obsessed with getting savage/cannibal film footage, often putting everyones' lives in grave danger. Osa took it all in stride--one gets the sense (from her book)that she secretly yearned for a more domestic or stable lifestyle. Instead, Osa followed Martin everywhere and made the best of many hair-raising situations. Their writings accurately describe foreign cultures of a different era when white superiority dominated, providing interesting first-hand history lessons.

This is just a bad printing of screen grabs from the net. The photos are missing and two of the pages are missing text. I have since found out that this book can be downloaded in pdf form, for free with pictures, and better text, from the Open Library : [...]Amazon should not be selling these "books"There seem to be quite a few around and not always recognisable.

I heard of the book on LIFE BELOW ZERO, Glenn Villeneuve mentioned it. It's a realist description of living in "the bush" and trapping/hunting for a living. Includes the challenges and struggles of trying to survive alone and in a relationship AND with a family. Also discusses the politics of oil, wilderness, freedom, and government interference and decisions by people who sit in warm offices. A good read, as they say...

After watching "The Last Alaskans" and enjoying the show it is a pleasure to read this story to fully understand the real story behind Heimo and Edna North. Just a small glimpse into what makes them the way they are and their experiences was very interesting. This book combined with the tv show makes me feel as though I've known them for a lifetime. Wonderful story !

If you like watching the show "The Last Alaskans" you will love this book. It gives you an insight into the personality and background of Heimo Korth and his family. Heimo is truly a frontiersman who knows how to survive under the most adverse conditions. Whether you want to live off the land or not this book gives you a great insight into living in the wild and is also very entertaining. I highly recommend it.

Anyone who is interested in Alaska should read this book. Very well written account of Heimo's life in the most remote part of Alaska. I am a fan of the series Last Alaskan's and have a much better idea of how and why Heimo went there to live in the wilderness alone and why he stays. The book explains very well about the dangers of rivers, hunting, the remoteness, miles of traveling on foot for food and surviving the severe cold that can get down to 50 below zero that most of us who had never experienced it don't have a a good understanding of what it actually takes to live there. I've read several books about Alaska and this one goes right to the top of my list.

An excellent book. 5 stars given without reservation. I've admired Heimo and Edna Korth since first watching the TV Show "The Last Alaskans" and Braving Alaska. If you've ever thought of just leaving it all behind and heading off into the wilderness—or just wish that you could—this is one book you'll want to read. Heimo and his wife Edna make a life in the last true wilderness of Alaska, living primarily off the land. James Campbell did an excellent job with this book.

I first saw the Last Alaskans reality series on TV. This book fills in all the details and much, much more. First it is one of the best accounts of how unbelievably difficult it is to LIVE in Alaska's wilderness all year, especially with a family! It's the hazardous and unpredictable weather, difficulty earning money to provide for supplies and transportation, dangerous animals and rivers/terrain and the unpredictable availability of meat and fur. But the most difficult is raising a family there. This true story is the struggle of one man to balance his powerful love for this kind of living off the land vs his love of family and providing the needs of his wife and children. Particularly, the children need contact with people and a good education to enable them to make a choice of how they want to live once on their own. The balancing of sacrifices of adults vs children's needs makes a familiar struggle, although in the extreme here to most families on the grid The author does a great job telling the story in a style that never bores. This story is for dreamers, outdoor couples, adventure lovers, parents, and has much in adventure and food for thought for anyone and everyone! Highly recommended!

I'm SO excited to read this book! It arrived in just 2 days, packaged well. Beautiful cover photo of Heimo. (I create book covers, among other things so I appreciate the work that goes into them. ) Just finished this book tonight. Gosh, what a great escape. I wish I could have sat and read it cover to cover but i'm not blessed with that kind of time. A great read, well put together, you never lose sight that the author is sitting with them, telling this story. Hardships, family and living a minimal existence, yet it fuels the fire in this old man, 'if only'. But I've had a great life and like Heimo's life, it has been mine.

The Book was excellent, and I fully enjoyed it, brought you a more in depth look into the lives of Both Heimo and Edna, Their personal lives before and after they met and their lives and tragety they suffered together concerning their first daughter together after getting married. The Show on Discovery, The Last Alaskins give you an understanding of their lives out there and what they have to do to servive, and this book gives you more of an understand of everything that has gone on concerning the refuge, and what people that are still there are having to go though to stay and live there. If I was younger, I would of chose this lifestyle, and been more content with having less tan all this modern lifestyle or rules and regulations..to live free...

Its early years were marked by the tumult of the Tudor era – Henry and the dissolution of the monasteries and Mary’s attempt to restore Catholicism (including burning Thomas Cranmer, Archbishop of Canterbury, at the stake in Oxford). Life was comparatively quiet for almost a century, until Cromwell took power.The church weathered all that and more. But it has always had an official position within England’s (and Britain’s) governance structure, influence that helped to shape the Americans to decide upon on established church once the new country was born.As Roger Scruton points out in “Our Church: A Personal History of the Church of England,” the church has also been something more, even for those who don’t attend. Our Church: a Personal History of the Church of England by Christian and philosopher, Roger Scruton, is a fascinating and unusual read. There is memoire – as the reader learns about Scruton’s belief in the Church of England. There is history – as Scruton explains how the church came to be and how it different from other churches (denominations). And there is theology – as Scruton explains what the church believes and why its beliefs are more acceptable to him than others are.In contradistinction to non-Christians, Scruton states that Christians “accept Christ as one Person of the Holy Trinity and the living Word of God” (176). And he states that “Christians are better fitted to endure [persecution] than most religious believers. Their model and example is a man who was ‘despised and rejected’, and although they are commanded to love their neighbors, they also know that the person who commanded this was crucified for doing so” (186).As far as the denomination itself, one might find the sum of his attachment to the Church of England in that other denominations were “nothing, for me, save doctrine” (105). The liturgy of the Church of England makes up an essential part of the expression of Scruton’s belief.Throughout the book, Scruton argues that the Church is not something that is invented but coalesces around the foundation of doctrine or practice – that is, the Church exists, first, as a community (12). The beliefs and rituals of the Church make for a “strict compliance to a community-forming code” (54). The Church, then, is organic and only exists in community.Scruton has not written an apology, per se, for the Church of England against other denominations, so there is not an intensive comparison amongst them. He does, however, look both historically and doctrinally at the Puritans who thrived at the same time as the formation of the Church of England – and he does not care for them – which is not a surprise. (Though his dismissal of the Puritan understanding of the sacrament of the Lord’s Supper as a “merely symbolic ritual” falls short of their explanation of “real presence,” and, thus, Scruton is in error here.)This is an unusual and largely sound work of memoir and historical theology. I believe I understand more about the Church of England and Roger Scruton having read it – and it encourages me to read more of his work. However, as always, don’t assume authors are always correct.

All of us need a home, and Rodger Scruton's home is so much more than just the "empty Gothic building at the end of the road, visited for the first time, if at all, when dead." The Anglican Church is a treasure of European civilization. And here he gives us a tour.The book is too personal and particular to be for everyone. But it speaks to my heart like TS Eliot once did decades ago. I do not want to give the impression that this book is one of poetry or retreat. It is full of all the passionate bloody history of England and her church. Full of facts and lists and complexities. But that is not way I praise it so highly here.Rodger Scruton is a graceful, educated, gentleman of the old school; here, guiding us through ancient ivy covered Gothic stone, with stories of our music, history, architecture, literature. If you like introspection and quiet time with the old prayer book and the KJV Bible in a home you'll know as your own, then this book is for you.

It's great to get the religious views of this important modern philosopher. What we have in this work is a personal memoir with a lot of history and philosophy added to the mix. This is Scruton at his best.

This is a book to be read by every European. Scruton is the scholar to be read by all workld readers who know English and understand what is going on in the world. This is a very well written book which shows how English (religious and not only) identity was sculptured through the centuries. A must to be read.

I just recently purchased this book, and was so exicited to get it. I have not had a chance to cook anything from the book, but I REALLY LOVE ALL OF THE RECIPES after looking thru it. I especially love that I got it at a bargain price from Amazon.com. It was a used edition, but in great shape. I can't wait to make some of the recipes like the Hummingbird and Italian Cream Cake for the upcoming holidays. Then there are recipes like the Hotel Natchez Bread Pudding with Bourbon Sauce, that really sounds delicious. The Meatloaf Stuffed Tomato also sound like it would be really good, and there are so many others. Those are just a few of the recipes that caught my eye, but there were so many more. There were also a lot of Seafood recipes, that you might like. I am allergic to Sea food, so I usually don't look at those recipes as much as the others. Over all it is a great well written book, covering the most popular recipes from three great Southern States, Alabama, Louisiana, and Mississippi. I am confident you will love this great book that has more than 275 pages. Great Value, and super great recipes.

I chose this rating because I am a southerner and I love to cook. This book is a great little book for any southerner or a new bride! It has all the great recipes you grew up on and a lot of new ones. If you like to cook, you will enjoy this book!

He wants that kind of commitment and passion in his life. When he spends the night with Benny and River, “his twins”, he didn’t expect the feelings that overwhelmed him. When they came back into his life, he was elated, then he screws it up again.With the help of his band mates he knows “Family doesn’t need blood to form a bond, it only needs to have a heart”, and this story had heart in abundance. Be prepared for drama, lots of drama. But even with that, this was still a feel good kind of story. The Social Sinners have a knack for coming out the other side of trauma with their shiny outlook still intact.

Kirk Fcking Hammett. Fcking A!Other than that, this was weak. I mean, MMM stories are not easy to pull off... this one didn't make the cut for me. I liked the men involved just fine but they didn't work for me as in a loving, equal relationship. Too much, way too fast for one. For another? One of them seems more like a parental figure for the other two. Nothing wrong with that, just I don't quite enjoy it... that dynamic just doesn't work for me. That's why we ppl are all different ^^Can't always win...I'll keep reading 📖

I love TL Travis' Social Sinners, and I really enjoyed getting a peek inside Mickey's life. In this book, Travis wrote a triad/poly-amorous relationship. No, that's not like polygamy, BTW. Finding healthy triads in fiction, and a triad that states how difficult it actually is to keep it up, is rare. In fact, until now, the only good ones I've read were fanfiction!Travis wrote this nearly effortlessly, or so it seems when you pick up the book.Another thing I loved was Mickey's supportive mom; there is not enough of those in fiction, especially LGBT+ fiction!His relationship with his band is also showcased here, (though sometimes they have a bad way of showing each other that they love each other haha). And there is a little hint to what we can expect from Social Sinners #4, as well as another project Travis has in the works!All in all, this was a fast paced, quirky, sexy read that fans of rockstar books are going to ADORE.

** spoiler alert ** What I enjoy the most about this series is that it doesn't focus solely on the romance. Each book focuses on one band member and follows along as they navigate all aspects of life.Book 3 focuses on Mickey, the bassist for Social Sinners. He is fun-loving, has casual hookups, and is generally enjoying his life. He meets up with a couple who invites Mickey into their bed--something this couple does often and has a strict no repeats rule. Except for Mickey. They offer a repeat because the three felt something magical the first time they were together. Unfortunately, that something did not come through for me. The chemistry and romance wasn't there. Their relationship develops extremely quickly (No criticism there; I appreciate a good instalove story when done well.) with "I love you's" being thrown around. Again, those emotions didn't come through for me.Also, a lot of the dialogue was pretty juvenile. I know these are guys in their mid- to late-twenties and are in a rock band, but I kinda expected them to act a bit more grown up. One particular scene when everyone gets on eyeful of the three in the middle of sexy times made me cringe. Oh, and I also cringed at a bachelor/bachelorette party scene which came off as distasteful. Even the parents were a bit childish.Some of the drama was off-the-wall and resolved way to quickly for my satisfaction. Honestly, I could have done without the homophobic parents and botched kidnapping. Those plot points didn't add anything to the story and didn't help me connect with the characters.I did enjoy getting more of Joey and Stoli and the progression of their relationship, as well as glimpses of other characters/family members. I really am looking forward to Diamond's story to find out what exactly has been going on with Easton.

Social Sinners 3: A Heart Divided by TL Travis is Mickey's story. This installment is filled to the brim with love & family. Whether I was feeling their love or pain though, I swear I lost count of how many times I cried with these amazing characters.Mickey finds himself part of a threesome with two gorgeous blondes. It's only supposed to be a one time thing but well, you know how it goes. Emotions run high throughout this story as they deal with not one but two serious, life threatening situations. Travis gives us so many feels, ups and downs, I could not put this book down and am not at all missing the sleep that was lost. It's truly worth reading this series!

My God I love this series. You just want to hug these guys every book and the urge gets stronger with each one. One this I love about TL Travis is how no matter the book, love stands out the most. Love for family as well as SO's. Also, the biggest message I get from them is something very important to me. Family doesn't mean blood. Let's face it. No stranger can hurt you as bad as blood can but a true family you choose can heal you. The only hard thing with finishing this book is waiting until June for the next one. I know it'll be another great read and we will get another amazing trailer sometime between them and now. This author embodies what a true diverse writer is and I have enjoyed every book she has written. I strongly recommend reading her other work while we wait. You won't be disappointed.

A Heart Divided was the perfect title for this book. Heart wrenching at times, but a happy ending nonetheless. TL Travis poured her heart out in this one. The story and song lyrics are deep. The author really knows how to bring the characters to life and lets the readers see 8nside the characters minds. Great job TL Travis. Another Best Seller!!!
