Neuromeditation is a gift of insight for both psychotherapists and neurofeedback therapists. As meditation increases in popularity Neuromeditation offers a window into the neuronal mechanisms underlying the differences between various meditation styles. Insight into these differences help to enhance a therapist’s ability to help a client “align” with a style that will support their individual process.Prior to become a psychotherapist I taught yoga and meditation. I decided to return to school to better understand the underlying neuroscience behind what I was teaching. My education and research into this area taught me that not all meditations are the same and that it is imperative for a psychotherapist to understand the nuanced differences between them. Since working as a psychotherapist I have encountered several clients who have “tried” meditation in the past and who were left feeling confused and as if they were failures because they couldn’t “quiet their mind”. In my experience, many clients required more foundational training before moving forward with their mindfulness practice. The resources in Tarrant’s Neuromeditation book offer guidance, as well as a framework that will help psychotherapists identify and teach their clients from a scientific basis why and how each meditation style can help them, in a manner that makes it easy to practice and engage with step by step instructions.Beyond psychotherapy this book will offer neurofeedback therapists a richer framework and additional tools to help structure and broaden their neurofeedback trainings, by both validating various meditative states for clients, while also offering them grounded practices that they can utilize to continue calming the stress response between sessions. The hope is that this validation will inspire and ground clients in mindfulness practices outside of therapy sessions toward the goal of facilitating more powerful self awareness and engagement during neurofeedback. States and therapies that align with and were originally rooted in various indigenous and mystical teachings across the globe. Deep states neurofeedback is a future direction outlined in Neuromeditation. It is imperative that therapists working within these populations understand these differences, and consider the nuanced ways these discoveries will offer toward helping clients reframe and understand a clients experience from a neurological perspective. While also helping the therapist gain more intuitive insight into the subtle ”unconscious” patterns underlying a clients cognitive struggles and the potential strengths than can follow post traumatic growth. Moving beyond cognition and into the world of somatic and neuronal aspects of mental health are the future of therapy, and pathways back to the roots of these healing practices that were suppressed and dispelled during the colonization of indigenous territories. Dr. Jeff Tarrant’s book can serve as a grounded resource for anyone seeking to begin working from a brain based perspective, as well as those curious to learn more about neurofeedback and a return of awareness toward our natural healing capacities.

I am a psychologist and it is rare to find works that are as revolutionary as this book is. This book helps connect symptom patterns with possible ways to improve mental health via meditation.Dr Tarrant has also has combined these meditations with neurofeedback to help people get constant feedback during meditation if they are moving toward or away from brain wave pattern that match those of experienced meditator patterns doing similar meditations. I recently attended his training as a neurofeedback provider and therapist and found the training engaging. I also am still having after effects from the meditations I experienced while following guidance of Dr. Tarrant and the neurofeedback. He reminds us that it is important to continue the meditations to support the neurofeedback and spiritual growth. Wish it had more CDA area hikes in it. I don't consider the CDA bike trail a hike at all. So have 10 or so different portions listed as hikes was highly disappointing. So that was disappointing. I kept it though because it's a Funny read. Just to read the experiences was great. My hubby said if he wins the lotto he will never hike with me in glacier again because he doesn't want a Montana divorce. 😉

Good description of locations and trailhead. Also good description of type of hike and difficulty.

Making milk soap was the one thing that I could not master on my own. I read this book and a huge LIGHT BULB lit up and made everything clear. I did make some mediocre goats milk soap several times but I was not proud of it. Later I tried buttermilk and it was a catastrophe! The buttermilk curdled within one minute and it stunk to high heaven. Tonight I made a gorgeous buttermilk chocolate soap using Anne's directions and it was creamy, white and perfect! I posted a picture of it. Thank you Anne!!

Once again, Anne Watson creates a wonderful, straight forward approach to what has long been considered a complicated method. This book is the MUST have for anyone wanting to make milk soaps and is light years beyond Casey Makela's book on the same subject. I recommend this book for two major reasons:1) Watson discusses both liquid milk (what she calls the "cool technique") and powdered milk (the "warm technique") and offers excellent recipes and directions for both. Her method is very relaxed and while it is admittedly a hair more complex than regular CP soap, it's not nearly as complicated as some other books make it sound.2) Watson dispels the myths of milk soapmaking. This is HUGE. She goes through all of the myths about using milk from what type of milk you need to who can do it.Also, Watson is accessible through her website. I sent her a question not long ago and she responded to me within two days! How's that for asking the author? :)

Being new to soap making I purchased three (3) books, Milk Soapmaking by Anne L. Watson, Soap Crafting By Anne-Marie Faiola, The Soap Queen and Basic Soap Making edited by Letcavage. I have reviewed the three and find that each of them has good information to offer. If you are looking for an easy to follow soap making book that is great for a beginner like myself I would recommend both Basic Soap Making –Letcavage and Soap Crafting by The Soap Queen as they have easy to follow instructions as well as pictures to follow along. The Basic Soap making book offers more explanation on types of oils and smells to showing you some common items that can be used to make soap. The Soap Crafting book provides easy to follow recipes as well as easy to follow instruction and explanations. I love not only the MANY recipes in this book but also the explanation on techniques used to get different designs in soap. In my opinion, these books complement each other very well or could be purchased separately. The Milk Soapmaking book is perfect for milk soap recipes as well as explanations; it is a straight read only book so if you’re looking for a picture explanation you will not get it. She does an excellent job of describing what texture you should look for however, if you like an example this book may be best as an accompaniment to one or both of the other books and not as a sole source.

I started making soap with Anne's Smart Soapmaking. After becoming comfortable with the basic process of soapmaking, I decided I wanted to expand my horizons and learn about milk soaps. This book does not disappoint. It's written in the same easy to follow manner as her first book...non-intimidating, very clear, very simple.Since I've started soapmaking, I've purchased books from other authors and I must say that if I would have started with those books, I probably would not have made a batch of soap at all, as a few that I have just don't seem to have the easy to follow instructions like this book has.Just a note, you don't have to start with Smart Soapmaking. This book is geared toward the beginner just as the other book is. So if you've never made soap before and you're more interested in milk soaps, then this book will have you making beautiful milk soaps in no time at all.

I have really enjoyed this book. I never made soap before so when I had a surplus of goats milk I thought I would give it a try. My first batch turned out great until I tried to get it out of the mold. Guess I forgot to read the part on getting the soap out of the mold! She has very basic recipes you can almost make with what you have at home. There is also more expensive recipes. I am buying the ingredients for them a little at a time so I have not tried them yet.

I now use Anne's freezer method of preparing a yogurt/water mixture for soap making, and it is genius! It is perfect for mixing the yogurt/water with the lye and really shortens the time for the whole process.Anne has done lots of experimentation and record-keeping on many, many batches of milk-based soap which has allowed her to de-mystify and simplify the process, by eliminating unnecessary steps that other books swear by and tell you that you must do.In spite of Anne's caution against using the technique and the yogurt for other recipes, I do, and I have had success every time. I put yogurt in all of my recipes now using Anne's freezer method, and it produces wonderful soap, every time.My only problem with the book is that Anne lays out both the warm method and the cold method side-by-side over the course of several pages. I would rather have had them laid out separately so that each one takes up only a few pages, by itself (less page turning while working). I see no benefit to having them side-by-side, since you would never make them both at the same time, and who really cares how they compare with one another. The side-by-side layout is rather confusing, I think, and makes each process harder to follow than if each was simply laid out by itself.But the yogurt-parfait soap is perfection! If you are interested in trying to make milk, lye-based soap, you absolutely have to try that recipe! I would spray my mold with cooking spray, however, and put the mold into the freezer for 15 minutes before I unmold, and maybe even leave it in the mold for 48 hours. Milk-based soaps can be pretty soft to unmold.

Having read Dark Money, many books ago. This is a really nice way to get a refresher. After all with this current administration things are happening hourly at times and at least daily. So it's easy to get saturated. But this book helps you recall the players in this circus. I did expect more info about the Mercers. But t he Kochroaches were addressed.

Having read the book before the summary, there are no comparisons to be made as each has its own specific function which is that one is a quick, helpful reference to the other. Still, I am happy I have both, and that the information in the summary has been updated to the present adding credence to the implications of the facts as originally presented in the book when first published.

A must read for American's in today's polarized political environment. Explained a lot for me.
