I loved this book as well as the other stories within this series. So much so I got them all so I can read them over again anytime I want.I received a pre-release copy of this book and this is my honest review.

I loved this book from beginning to end. I couldn't put it down until I finished it. I can't wait for the next one to come out. Please hurry

I except that a normal book is a least 300 pages of more. I do not understand why 99cent kindle books tell how many pages the book is before you buy it. I would not call this a book but a short story. Very disappointed.

I think I have a new favorite writer. While not overtly Christian, this book is loving, realistic, and truthful without being sensational or sappy, and, thankfully, without the trend of foul language, which I am greatly disturbed by. I loved the characters, and the elements about how families interact and deal with each other. Betsy stole my heart, as I feel I am most like her, and yet always wished I was more like Jenna. I loved this story and wish Ms. Denton would write a sequel!

Ms. Denton has written another moving, beautiful book. This book was impossible to put down. For me, it was a wonderful break from the harsh realities of today. If you enjoy reading for pure pleasure, don't pass this one up.

It is an even story about a relationship between two sisters who love each other but are not as close as they both would like to be. Through the course of one summer, they get to know each other better and find that the preconceived notions they each had about the other was not really the case. In some ways the story was predictable, however I enjoyed the different settings and the character developments.

I really enjoyed Lauren Denton’s first novel, The Hideaway, so I thought I would try this one. It surpassed The Hideaway in so many ways, always keeping me guessing, hoping and wondering what would happen for these two sisters and their families...which choices they would make. Both novels are good, clean, interesting and fun stories. They got me laughing and tearing up - occasionally both at one time. Unlike The Hideaway, which wrapped up fairly nicely, Hurricane Season left me wanting a sequel so I could find out what happens after this novel stops. I hope she will write one!

Lauren K. Denton is my favorite new author. I loved, loved, loved The Hideaway, and the Hurricane Season is just as wonderful. The characters are described and developed so that you grew along with their day to day life and their hopes and dreams. I felt like I knew the characters as if they were right beside me. And the Hurricane hit me as much as it did Alabama, I got so involved with the story, I actually felt the hurricane reports were for my area. I know, sounds like I might have been drinking something. but her writing is so vivid I felt like I was transported to Alabama. Thank you Ms. Denton for another great book. Please, keep up the good work.

Two rocky relationships come to a climax in this novel--between two sisters and between a husband and wife. While the younger, freer-in-spirit sister Jenna pursues one of her dreams, the older sister and her husband, a farmer, care for the younger sister's two girls. Since Betsy, the older sister, and her husband Ty have not been able to have children of their own, there are emotional issues needing resolution. Meanwhile Jenna is exploring another male relationship and must make a difficult choice. The hurricane which blows through southern Alabama where the farm is located is a symbol of the turmoil in the various characters' lives. I would highly recommend this book to anyone interested in sister relationships, southern settings in literature, exploring the issue of infertility, and raising little girls on a farm. The pure joy of the city girls discovering the miracles of life on a farm was enjoyable. Devon O'Day skillfully read the MP3 CD version to which I listened.

I really enjoyed the characters and can I say, story. So many people end up guessing what others think as the years thunder by without knowing the truths. I know too many people who just have closed up or off. The hurt mostly themselves, but also their children and siblings. Denton is excellent at creating a visual, palpable background of places and people without TOO much of a narrative,. Some authors can feel condescending over describing or soupy. until OK we get it, This was fresh and interesting

⭐️⭐️⭐️/5. This is a sweet, quiet #grownupreads novel set in the south. Amid fertility struggles and an impending hurricane in Alabama, Ty and Betsy are struggling to connect like they did in the past. Jenna, Betsy’s sister, feels like her life is off track - she is raising two daughters on her own while working in a coffeehouse. She wants to find herself, and when she is offered a spot at an artists’ retreat, she sees a chance to really find her passion again. She asks her sister to watch her kids, and while the retreat keeps stretching longer than originally expected, Betsy and Ty find their world turned upside down in new ways, both wonderful and difficult. I found myself skipping over Jenna’s parts, but overall this one kept me awake during middle of the night feeds.

Great place to start in developing one's understanding of technology in Christian worship. I oversee a worship ministry in a medium-sized church. As we continue to grow, it's important for me to develop a foundational understanding of how to utilize technology and mobilize my tech teams. The book is clearly written and provides material that is accessible for those just beginning to learn about sound in a worship venue. Worth the purchase, for sure.

Nice resource for someone trying to gain basic knowledge / understanding about contemporary worship equipment. I found it quite helpful as a "do-it-yourself" small church pastor who does not have sound personnel. It is up-to-date as well. I recommend it.

I am a biblical counseling major and this is a required book for me to read. I had no idea what I was going to learn, but I learned a lot. It is for sure a text book. I got it on my kindle, so I can imagine what the hard copy is like. It is very detailed which is good, but since I am not into lighting and sound and that is not my field, it took me awhile to get it through. very tedious. For someone who is interested and wants to know a lot about this field and wants to know every detail, this would be the book to read.

Very practical tips, tricks, and help with trouble shooting your sound system. As a very much beginner in the sound and tech era, this book saved my life.

If you are trying to set up systems for sound, lighting or video this is a great resource. It's written lightly and not like a traditional tech manual so getting the information you need is not a boring endeavor. "fire is bad." indeed

Erik Schubach has found another obscure piece of Norse myth to weave into his Valkyrie Chronicles. It turns out that the Valkyrie only get half of the slain for Valhalla, the other half are claimed by Freya for the meadow called Folkvangr. In order to have known this you have to have read the Grimnismal, the Gylfaginning or Egils saga. Obviously this author has read all the relevant Eddas, probably in the original Icelandic.I am impressed by the wealth of detail Mr Schubach incorporates into his Valkyrie stories. Some of this detail is available on Wikipedia, but you have to know what to look for first.As to the story, a thousand years have passed on earth and Valhalla is ready to transition to the next world. Here, too, someone was left behind. In this case it is Kara's aunt, Freya. Besides the obvious reunion of aunt and niece who each have spent six thousand years thinking the other was dead, there is exciting and dramatic plot elements that I won't spoil here.It's another great story, this series just keeps getting better and better.

Having read all of the other books by Erik Schubach I went into this one with high expectations. I was not disappointed. Familiar characters, New characters and the always emotional story telling was all I had come to expect from these books. Strong characters whose actions and thoughts bring you to laughter and tears, make you smile and feel a part if their tales. Freya's tale of exile and her efforts to save the people she had grown to love and care for and her reuniting with Kara and Odin were strong, moving threads in this tale of valor and strength of belief. One person an make a difference.

I wish I was better at writing book reviews because I know my words do not do these books enough justice. I thought j was in lot with the MOTS books but wow I really love The Valkyrie Chronicles. I love being able to escape to another world better yet worlds. I love all the action and power and compassion all these characters have. When this book came out I quickly read the other two books and went on a 4 day Valkyrie marathon and now I eagerly await the next book and I can not wait to see what will unfold next.

As always Erik Schubach has crafted another amazing story for his fans to read. I was not a fan of Sci fi before his Valkyrie series but now I am. His characters continue to dazzle me with there humor, spirit, and insight to there feelings and there world. Buy the series and buy any of his books it is well under priced and worth every penny you spend!!

Erik schubach has done it once again with his new addition to the valkyrie chronicles folkvanger here we travel to another planet that the ragnarok have also invaded with new people to meet and ofcourse the valkfela schubach has once again given us another work of art that is filled with wonder, excitement, adventure, some heart ache and ultimately love

Everything Erik writes is great- not a single bad novel yet- this series is fantastic sci-fi with heroic women (with super-heroic powers) battling to save their alien culture and the planet Earth too

It a fun tell of Valkyrie culture along with Norse Mythology and a little science fiction. But at the heart is a get to know you lesbian tell, understand stated with just a few kisses between battles. No Sex. Still it's fun.

Wounderful twist on legends and myths of the past. Nano technology with attitude thrown in with larger than life hero's makes you hold your breath to see if their gonna blow up the world when they loose their temper. Very entertaining.

Unlike the Art of books, which touch a variety of art works during the production, like lighting, shading, layout, modeling, sculpting and more.This book is all about storyboards, it's about the early development of ideas, it happens in Pixar's story department. Most of the works in this book are quick pen, pencil or digital sketches with little use of colors. They are like prototypes, they are supposed to be fast and cheap, and effective to communicate an idea.There aren't a lot of texts to explain the development of ideas, why some stories worked, why some didn't. But for that probably each movie will need its own book.

 There are few companies out there as innovative as Pixar. One of the reasons for this is that they encourage creativity, and it's clearly demonstrated in the book "Funny! Twenty-Five Years of Laugher from the Pixar Story Room". The book is a collection of humorous drawings from Pixar story artists. Comedy is a key part of Pixar's storytelling process; filmmakers are often looking to add humor to their stories, but it has to come from the truth of the character and the circumstance.As artist Jason Katz says in his introduction, these are images "you were never supposed to see". Nothing you see in the book made it into the finished movie. Since Pixar films are extensively planned and prepped before a single frame is animated, this is as close as you will likely ever get to "deleted scenes". Some of the ideas clearly contradict the tone of movie and were probably just done for fun; but others are genuinely worthy of consideration and would seemingly fit right in. It just goes to show the abundance of ideas that come out of such an open and collaborative environment - for every idea that makes it into the movie, there are hundreds that do not. And while the ideas in the book might not have made the cut, they still played a crucial role in fleshing out who these characters are and what their personality will be.If it's not obvious, I should mention that I am a big fan of Pixar, having seen all their films multiple times -- and I'd imagine I'm not alone. The pieces of comedy on display in the book - sometimes a visual gag, other times a funny one-liner - are made even more interesting (and funnier) if you are familiar with the characters and the films. Whatever the idea is on the page, it's enhanced if you already have the knowledge of what the character looks and sounds like, as well as how he/she behaves in the film.This is a fantastic book of art and humor. If you love Pixar, then you really have to give this one a look. Highly recommended!

 Funny! is a book of visual gags from Pixar's story room. With the exception of John Lasseter's foreword and Jason Katz's introduction, the whole book is on the funny ideas and jokes that never made it to the big screen. There are occasional brief commentary by the artists. The book includes all the films right up to Good Dinosaur.I enjoyed going through the book looking at the drawings, which are actually more like quick sketches.Humour is difficult to describe because everyone has a different sense of humour. Having said that, I feel that some of the gags would work better on screen than as standalone gags like they appear in this book. For me, this book's a mixed bag of funny and not so amusing cartoons. It's best that you have watched all the films so that you know the context behind some of the gags.My favourites are those from A Bug's Life, Monsters Inc, Monsters University and Ratatouille. I just feel that they are funnier. The rest of the book are mostly visual gags, not the laugh-out-loud type. E.g. Frozone cools the beer with his breath, Mater with a missile coming out of his month, Wall.E poking at the captain's fat tummy, grumpy Carl holding a bunch of colourful balloons. Merida the bear being launched from a catapult. Spot eating ticks off Arlo's head. They are like those single panel newspaper comics designed to bring out a smile.Overall, it's still an enjoyable collection of work from the story room. Awesome & awesome!Some of the best from Pixar sharing their sketches (digital & traditional) of the best characters to ever hit the big screen, absolutely rad to see them in sketch & storyboard form!Don't hesitate if you're a toon fan & definitely don't pass up if you're a Pixar fan!

Makes for a very enjoyable and entertaining (albeit fairly brief) read. You can kind of think of this as Pixar meets the Sunday funnies... (do they still exist?). It goes from Toy Story all the way through to The Good Dinosaur and gives a bit on an insight into how Pixar brainstorms it's jokes. Thumbs up!
