I titled my review this because the box set is completely awesome, and it's at least $60 cheaper than the other sites I browsed (at the time of release). It's certainly cheaper than buying all 27 volumes individually!What you get, and comments about each:(If I seem to nitpick, then sorry, but I like to be extremely specific and thorough, letting you know precisely what I received.)I. All 27 Volumes of the Fullmetal Alchemist Manga in Paperback--1. These aren't new editions or anything, they're the same versions you can already purchase individually from VizMedia, but all in one set for one heck of a price! The set also includes Volume 27, which has yet to be relased by itself. (UPDATE 1/8/12: IN THE COMMENTS, SOMEONE HAS INFORMED ME THAT THE TRANSLATIONS AND IMAGES ARE A LITTLE DIFFERENT IN SOME PLACES COMPARED TO THE INDIVIDUAL COPIES YOU CAN PURCHASE FROM THE SAME PUBLISHER. I HAD NO IDEA, AND I APOLOGIZE IF THIS MISLED ANYONE!)--2. Three or four of my books had EXTREMELY tiny, extra pieces of the cover hanging off of the corners on the spines of the books. It's kind of annoying just knowing they're there, but I'm guessing it's normal for paperbacks. But believe me, it's probably not even worth mentioning.--3. The first 3 books have holographic covers, and the rest do not.--4. They're right-to-left style, to preserve the orientation of Arakawa's original artwork. I'm an American and have been reading left-to-right my entire life, but I, personally, haven't had an issue with this. I THOUGHT I would, but I simply haven't.II. A 2-Sided Poster--1. Both sides can be viewed on this product's homepage in the photo section.--2. It's folded in fourths, so there's creases. I have mine hung up though and it looks good to me. I barely-to-don't recognize the creases.--3. Approximately 10"w x 15"h.III. The Light Novel "The Ties that Bind"--1. I'm honestly not sure what this is. I did a little research and I guess it's a novelization of some of the manga chapters?... I really don't know. It IS a novel though, meaning pages full of paragraphs of words. There's only like 3 pages with actual pictures.IV. The Box Itself--1. Approximately the size of the poster, and 5 inches deep.--2. Has 2 shelves (one above the other) that house the books quite snugly. It's kinda hard to get them out sometimes.--3. Has a hinged "door" that protects the books from dust when closed, stays shut with small velcro circles on the right side, and has a handle on top making it much easier to carry around.--4. You can see the outside design of the box on this product's home page. The inside of the box is basically the same design as the back of the box.--5. My box arrived with a few small creases and dents in it, but I suppose this is practically unavoidable when shipping across country.--6. I'd have preferred a horizontally-orientated version of the box and its contents, but it's a very nice box nonetheless, I must say.Overall, this product is definitely well worth its price and worthy of being passed down the Armstrong line for generations!!!

First off, let me say I generally am not a fan of anime or manga and had purchased this book as a Christmas gift for my younger brother. After flipping through the second and getting caught up, I borrowed the first from said brother. The Fullmetal Alchemist anime (television) adaptations (there are two) are good, however they do not compare to the plot and depth of story in the manga. If you are manga fan (or even if you're not, like me) and are looking for a plot revolving around moral right and wrong, love of family, and the lengths we will go to in order to save them, then this is for you. I highly recommend this purchase, and sincerely hope you take the time to read this series some time. If nothing else, binge watch the anime(s) when looking for something different on Netflix :)Note: The "Brotherhood" adaptation is truer to the manga, I prefer the original adaptation.

YEEEES! SUCH A HUGE FULL METAL ALCHEMIST BROTHERHOOD FAN! When I saw this for sale didn't even realise I purchased it. I just had to have it 😋In any case, described as advertised. Paperback box set with 27 volumes, light novel, and a small poster. And there's velcro to help close the box.

I've been into Fullmetal Alchemist for as long as I've been into anime. If someone were to ask me what I feel is one of the best series of all time, my go to answer is ALWAYS Fullmetal Alchemist- and Hunter X Hunter- but that's besides the point.I think this series is something everyone should get to experience. It's always an absolute delight to return to and I still get emotional from thinking about it, even after over half a decade after first witnessing the series.Now I've had my eyes on this box set for quite sometime. Maybe since 2013? It was my first time ever seeing a manga box set and it blew my younger mind away. The idea of just buying an entire series in one package hadn't occurred to me. Of course I wasn't making any money back then so I had to wait.Six years later and after some heavy consideration, I decided to go ahead and buy this box set. The shipping was extremely quick. It came in a relatively big box, much bigger than the box set itself. I was surprised to see that it wasn't damaged around the edges to be quite honest. Once I opened it, I immediately went to check out the poster that came along with it. I don't have it shown in any of my pictures but it's very cute and I'd like to hang it on my wall the next chance I get. The light novel is a nice addition, even if it is there just fill in that extra space. I'll have to read it at some point for sure.The volumes themselves are absolutely beautiful. The manga collector side of my brain basically had an orgasm because there's nothing better than seeing an entire series lined up like this. The volumes didn't have any damage whatsoever and were in amazing quality. I took each of them out to admire the covers and they all looked great.Now I haven't actually read all of Fullmetal Alchemist but I've seen both the 2003 anime and Brotherhood. I've been reading the series with busted up volumes from the library where the pages are falling out. Now that I have this box set though, it'll make reading the rest of the series a breeze.All in all, a wonderful purchase. I would 100% do it again, it is worth every penny if you are a Fullmetal Alchemist fan and wish to read the manga- or y'know just have every volume physically for the cheapest price possible.

To this day I remember waiting in line for some hours or more to simply walk through one of the first 747's that was on a National tour and parked on the tarmac at Greater Southwest International Airport half way between Dallas and Ft. Worth in the late 1960's. Accepting the enormity of the aircraft was somewhat difficult even when seeing it and walking through it. With it's double aisles and four distinct passenger cabin areas it's spaciousness was really overwhelming. The next versions of double aisle jet liners, the DC-10, L-1011 and B767 all were introduced some years later. The first scheduled 747 commercial flights by Pan Am to London began in the Summer of 1970. Personally my first 747 flight was on an Air France version nonstop from Chicago O'Hare to Paris de Gaulle in the mid 1970's. Since that time I have been fortunate to fly the 747 many times, but, the thrill of travel on this aircraft never became jaded. And initially the development of the 747 was almost an afterthought. When Boeing lost the competition for the design and construction of a large military transport plane to the Lockheed C5A-Galaxy, their design for that U.S. Government specification was the basis for the upper cockpit and for the lower front to back passenger cabin. The Queen reigned for more than thirty-five years before the development and entry into service of the A-380 in 2007. This book details the story of the creation of the 747.

A good easy read about Joe Sutter and the 747. I'd seen a few documentaries about the genesis of the 747 and Joe was in most of them. He lays it all out in the book and details the struggle to keep the project moving forward while fighting off upper management's cost cutting efforts, others trying to get him replaced as the lead, and trying to satisfy the customer. He was interesting to listen to as a man in his 90s when he recalled the story in the documentaries, but I can only imagine what he must have been like in his prime when doing battle in his arena. Glad to have it in my library.

.This book is authored by Joe Sutter and Jay Spenser and chronicles Sutter's life and the development of the 747 from Sutter's perspective as chief engineer. I recently watched a special on Boeing where Sutter was briefly interviewed and discussed the recent entry of the Boeing 787 into commercial service. Below are two observations and five excerpts from the book that I found valuable from a leadership perspective.ObservationsA. Sutter was a believer in simple and not afraid to try different things. It is amazing to know he cut out paper airplane engines and moved them around a line drawing of a 737 as part of the process that established engine location for the 747.B. Even at Sutter's high status and power level negative politics are a fact of life and must be dealt with. He provided examples of unwanted help he had to take, unrealistic deadlines and people trying to take over his roles and responsibilities.Excerpts from the book1. By far the biggest lesson I learned from the 737 was never to take an initial design configuration as a given. It's human nature to do just that and go charging ahead to work within an existing framework... Engineers love to dive right in and analyze the hell out of reams of data. Very often though, they can't see the forest for the trees because they haven't done the simple work up front to be sure they are starting down the right path... The more brain power you apply up front, the greater the likelihood that you'll find the design path that solves your challenges and meets your customers' requirements... If I made an individual contribution, it was my insistence that we take stock before charging out of the starting blocks.2. I let my people run with the ball and made sure to give credit where it was due. I also strove to communicate well. On the 747 program, I was the one making the decisions--I'm not a consensus guy--but I generally did so only after hearing everybody out with an open mind.3. Real leadership means having the courage to do what you know is right. (This always sounds easier than it is and Sutter provides some examples of high pressure situations where he did this)4. If we had differences, I made sure we resolved them on the spot.5. ...I realized that all of us on that incredibly complex and demanding program were so close to our own problems that we probably couldn't see the forest for the trees. I decided to fix that... I worked hard to keep my 747 engineering team as broadly informed as myself. Sitting in on their meetings or visiting their locales for impromptu gatherings, I covered the sales picture, our engineering challenges and successes, pertinent events inside and outside the company... I saw the role of the manager isn't simply to pass out instructions; it is also to inform... people need to know where they stand. It's a psychological necessity, and morale suffers in the absence of such knowledge.This book proves once again the fundamental parameters for success are not complex. The key lies in the discipline (yours and the organization's) to adhere to those parameters.* Evaluate all options before going forward* Empower people and give them credit* Make decisions only after listening* Stand up for what is right* Resolve issues quickly* Constantly communicate the big picture to everyoneExamine the bullets above. Having read several books on circumnavigations, I was looking for one that covered some of the details such as courses and specifics of sailing more than storytelling and this book does that. I ordered the set and ended up not reading the second half because I found them unlikeable. Still the illustrations and detail are great.

Again, I bought it because she was my Aunt Sue and I wanted to have her book. Actually, one of these I purchased as a gift for my brother, who is a boat captain and has gone many, many places. Not as many as Aunt Sue, but I thought that being a captain, he would like it too.

Really well done. Meticulous, hand-drawn charts. Very approachable style. Now if I can just find Volume II ...

This is a great read that will fill your imagination of a circumnavigation by Sue and Don Moesly. Sue is great but I struggled reading sections on Don's nasty behavior.Sue, next time leave Don at home.

As a sailer planning a world cruise, I view this book as one of the best cruising books I have read because it touches so much on the cultures and people along the way rather than merely on the sailing aspects. I have only read volume one and am eagerly awiting volume two. If you are not a sailer, this is a superb armchair travel book. You will really feel you are meeting people all over the globe. Sue manages to convey the excitement, beauty, learning and sharing of a couple sailing around the world.

I love this cookbook. It's beautiful to flip through, the photos are incredible, the charts and tips are super helpful - like the "well-stocked pantry" chart or the "herbs and spices" chart outlining the flavors and what they go well with. Just looking through the recipes I started planning out my week's meals from this book.So the important stuff, the recipes! I've only tried a few so far, but they are super unique, delish, and even fun, like the art deco cookies. The maple braised beef stew is amazing, and the goat cheese pancakes my new favorite breakfast treat. There's a mix of everything, mains and sides, from savory to sweet, and even drinks. I definitely recommend this for someone looking for a cookbook that's a bit more special!

What perfect timing to run across this book, right when I'm preparing my Thanksgiving menu, but please don't limit this book just to this event. This book is filled with so many delectable edibles made with fresh healthy core foods. Just reading the Table of Contents can make anyone drool, but this book is not just about the recipes. This book is also filled with wonderful heart felt stories. The combination of which is striking and makes for a great edition to be added to any kitchen.I do want to touch on a sampling of the recipes so that you get the proper idea. First the contents are split as Brown Lunch Bag, Treasure Hunt, Harvest Celebration, Winter Snow Day, Tapping the Maple Tree, Breakfast in Bed, Tea Party, Date Night, Rooftop BBQ, and the list goes on. You get the idea? Now the actual recipes (YUMMY!); here are some of my favorites, this is a micro list compared to what is contained within this book' Grilled Fennel and Watermelon Salad, Fried Hominy with Chile and Lime, Turkish-Style Eggs with Yogurt, Cumin Glazed Carrots, Pecan Pie with Salted Maple Ice Cream, Shaved Brussels Sprout Salad with Cranberries and Almonds, Spice-Rubbed Steak and Mango Chutney Crostini, Wild Mushroom Risotto with Caramelized Leeks and again the list goes on and on. I really enjoyed reading the author's journey into her seasonally based home cooking in New York. This book tells the stories in selecting fresh ingredients, simplicity and elegance of everyday meals. I like to try some of the new recipes such as poached salmon salad, stuffed lamb shoulder, and salted maple ice cream. Highly recommend this book to guys willing to venture into home cooking.

This is a fantastic cookbook, in fact it's more with all the beautiful photographs and narratives about trips to the markets and travels that revolve around food. The chapters revolve around the seasons with emphasis on fresh farmer's market foods. All the recipes appear to be simple to cook and the ingredients are easy to find. Going on my shelf for sure.

What's not to love about this cookbook? It has an air of sophistication with a side of rustic and down to earth tones. Starting the first page the author takes you on a journey. From apple picking and drinking hot cocoa to reminiscing the times of bringing a bag lunch to school, you truly feel as if you're conversing and exchanging stories with a good friend. The careful selection of the plating, setting, and utensils to complement each recipe makes this a cookbook one would proudly display on their shelf and/or gift to a loved one. Love, love, love.
