Thoroughly enjoyed this book as I have just moved to China and plan on doing the Trans-Siberian/Trans Manchurian train trip early next year myself. The cultural and historical insights are placed well within the overall narrative and add to the journey's retelling. I also appreciated a few of the practical tips that come out naturally through the events - toilet and sleeper class cabin info on the train was good value:). Although I am doing the trip in reverse order (to the way that these guys did it) I still got some solid takeaways and came away more motivated for my own trip - cheers Simon.

Wow. I must admit it has been awhile since I have read a travelogue type book. As a child my father was a zealot when it came to Richard Halliburton (Google it) and so I read Halliburton.But there has been no other Halliburton.And yet, Under the Flight Path took me to that place. Those mysterious, magical, mystical places.I have traveled but not to the places Mr. Pridmore writes of. I have lived in some pretty exotic places.But I was sucked into Mr. Pridmore's journey. I mean, how cool is that anyway? To travel overland to your new home. 9000 miles for gosh sakes!!!! Thru some very rugged geography. Under some very rugged conditions.This book is being passed around now to friends. I hope I get it back. But if I don't I will certainly buy another copy.And to the author, Mr. Pridmore; please move again and travel overland. I am anxious to share your next amazing journey.

"I have just finished this delightful book: I recommend it highly to all those that enjoy traveling and discovering new places new people and different ways of life.The writing is so entertaining and so full of cute observations.It only did not get the fifth star for I missed some more photos and detailed maps....but the author told me he is already providing new photos to go with the reading....Waiting for his next essay on his incredible travels in asia!

What a trip! It takes an adventurist spirit to attempt such a long & rugged trip through countries where language & culture are so different. I'm proud of Sofie that she was able to hold her own through some trying experiences! Simon has done a great job of taking us along for the interesting ride. A very enjoyable read.

This hopelessly sophomoric booklet is an unedited 5th-grade exposé on “How I Spent My Summer.” Scribbled by an “adventure tourist” aficionado of very little brain, it’s a “Golly-Gee” litany of uninspired and mind-numbingly puerile observations of single-sentence strength. A tramp through standard-issue Russian ruination by a mind even more withered than a Siberian board fence is followed much too quickly by sections of seemingly witless nothingness in Asia. Such an appalling little book is this, likely dictated by a world-class pedant that’s simply too infuriating to read without flinging the thing at the nearest wall. Printed in Bali and without a publishing house one wonders how this tripe ever made it to Amazon when it's a turgid bit of dross more suited to a closet floor. I hated it so much, I bagged it less than halfway. It's almost worth buying as a style manual of how dull are you? The grammar is one howler after another.

This wannabe cold bitch's inner dialogue is more than nauseating. She's whinny, judgmental, self-righteous, manipulative, dismissive and miserable. This immature female stated that she was "dismayed" that he caught her fondling his private. That was a shocker, the man just laid down 5 minutes ago. She is a biologist / researcher who is not a virgin; but, she acts clueless for no reason. The end result is the author’s laziness evolves into a disrespect for my dollar and time. Pure trash how does Lock appear to be the reasonable adult when his interactions have been limited by his past circumstances and island isolation. Running away because she’s afraid he might convince her to stay sounds like an 4-yr old having a tantrum because they need a nap. It’s so wrong. Far too much self loathing "I’m pathetic" and professions of "I hate you". I should never be with a man like him. She cares so much for animals; but, has trouble showing empathy for a man who grew up being treated less than an animal. She has the best sex in her life and immediately walks away from Lock because she should be mad at him. It’s an island; stop chasing her. Please leave her miserable behind alone for at least the next 50 pages. She was the villain hurling cold shoulders, spewing guilt, casting venomous words, weapons of her emotional warfare against a man who was so desperate for a female companion that he continuously pled for her to choose him and for him to be enough for her, let me love you he begs over and over and over and over again. Shame on you Ms. Wild for throwing this trash onto multiple pages and sinfully selling it. I wanted that boat to drown her miserable behind and him to find it too painful to stay on the island any longer. Prompting him to build a boat, go to the mainland to repent for involvement in the death of Ella’s little sister only to find forgiveness and the family he longed for all his life, him discovering siblings and his niece. Learning of his history (family background) and the death of his father. Living with Cage and his family and falling in love with a nurse or nanny so he can feel valued, loved, not a consolation prize. But the author took the book in another direction that was too little too late for me.

We absolutely adore this series of books in our family. Our 2.5 year old loves to hear the simple stories...and I feel like she's getting a little bit of an education. The pictures are also excellent.Of course, this isn't a full biography, but it does give my toddler enough information to learn about George Washington as a type of character.The fact that it's a board book also means that it is durable and that our daughter can have it when she's alone in her room and not tear it.We will build our library with all of these. :)

I got this book (along with others) to introduce small children to American History. I like the book, but feel like it's a bit "dry". Why include details like "He won the war at Yorktown, Virginia." If you only have two sentences about the Revolutionary War in the whole book, why use one sentence to mention the city and state where the war ended? Tell us that he won and some amazing, honorable thing HE DID in the the war. It is important to note that this book focuses on the WHOLE life of George Washington, birth to retirement. So, with only two sentences for each "chapter" of his life(being a board book for pre-schoolers, it IS the right length!) the events associated with his presidency and public service are told in 6 to 8 sentences. The other pages discuss where born, interests, farming, retirement, family. It's a good overview of the facts of George Washington's life.

Not completely historically accurate. Portrays slaves as "happy workers".

My toddler is currently 21 months and he is loving all this series. I know some concepts are too elevated for him at this age, but he knows and identifies the founding fathers now, he knows they loved to read and that they were great Americans. This is the type of book that will teach him different things as he gets older.

The simple telling of the story of our first president was well-received by our 2 year old grandson!The pictures added to the story.The words were simple, yet introduced new vocabulary in a context that a young child can learn.As a speech-language pathologist, I am always looking for children's books that can accomplish this important language development skill.

This book is a great way to begin teaching American history to a young audience. It is easy to read and full of illustrations to help illuminate the story behind the 1st President of the United States. Although the book isn't a very long biography, it certainly is one of the best and most fun ways to begin learning about the Father of America.

It was a gift for a kindergartener in Virginia. My Understanding is they enjoyed it very much!

A little long for my preschooler who was most interested in the Washington Monument anyway. Good coverage for kids over 6
