They perform together before rapt audiences across Europe until his extraordinary talent and genius as a composer overshadow her musical gifts. The feminist message is not overdone, but the novel is far too long and detailed, with numerous similar scenarios of the siblings growing up under the eyes of their devoted, autocratic father and of Wolfgang’s traveling while Nannerl, furious, remains at home (Why must I be left behind again?). In addition, Meyer gives no information about her sources, so it’s hard to know how much is based on fact. Problems aside, Nannerl’s first-person narrative still makes for universal drama, especially because her anger and jealousy never subsume her enduring love for her brother, their mischievous bond, or their shared love of music as refuge and joy. Later she was denied to marry a man she loved. And the heart-breaking drift between two siblings who once were inseparable.This story starts with her at the age of 4, when she already displays musical talent. She is trained by her father Leopold Mozart, a violinist and composer. Four years later, at the same age of 4, her brother displays also a musical talent. Not only that, he is also recognized as a prodigy child.When Nannerl is 10 and Wolfgang 6, they travel to the royal courts of Europe. First, they leave Salzburg (Austria) for Bavaria (Germany), and Vienna. Later they go on a grand tour throughout the Europe for 3,5 years, waiting for invitations to the royal courts and to be recognized.When Wolfgang is sent to Venice to continue his musical education, Nannerl is left behind for the first time. It’s a double disappointment for her as she also dreamed of improving her musical skills in Venice.Nannerl has her first suitor. She likes him, but she doesn’t love him. Her first love is music. If she says yes, that will be the end of her career for which she still hopes.Her father is not happy with Nannerl for not having a husband. He tells her to be realistic. Who will support her, when her father is gone?I struggled with rating this book. I was between 3 or 4 stars. This story is mostly concentrated on their tours, which at some point is monotonous as it seems as reading the same thing over and over again. At the same time, books written about Mozart usually start with him already in Vienna, only briefly mentioning his childhood. So it is interesting to get in depth a biographical story of them both. Therefore, at the end I rated the book at 4 stars.Also, keep in mind that this book is for YA. The prose is fairly simple.

Beautifully evoked in every way, this is the story of the forgotten Mozart: his charming, pretty, highly gifted musical sister Nannerl. Beginning in the backwater town of Salzburg in the early 1760's, the father of the family Leopold Mozart (who was a gifted composer himself), realized his six year old son Wolfgang and eleven year old daughter Nannerl were extraordinary musicians and toured them all over Europe to play before royalty and the elite. But the spirited, imaginative boy Wolfgang Mozart soon drew all the attention. Nannerl was a gifted keyboardist and he was a genius in performing and composition. For the rest of her long life she would live in his shadow.As an 18th century woman, Nannerl could have made her way in music as a singer, but she was not a singer and thus her love of music, which she had shared with her little brother and which equaled his, largely lay frustrated within her. All the family energy went to further her brother's career, for as a man and a composer, he could one day support them well. But he grew up and away from his father's possessive hold and Nannerl went on to make her own life.One so loves Nannerl in this sypathetic book as she tries gently to find who she is apart from her brilliant brother and domineering father. The Mozart family, friends and times are warmly, wonderfully drawn. She grows up, tries to find love and to compromise and still, even as her correspondance with her beloved brother who is now famous in Vienna draws to an end, she is determined to keep the music she shared with him as a child alive in her.In the end this novel is not just for someone who wants to read about the Mozart family, but for any girl or young woman who ever struggled between adoration and envy of a brilliant brother and goes on loving him long after he has left her for a brighter life.I am the author of the novel MARRYING MOZART (Viking Penguin).

I was thrilled to see a new Carolyn Meyer book! I own four other books by her(including the Young Royals Series) and I continue to be huge fan! I thoroughly enjoyed this book. She did a great job describing Nannerl's life while not forgetting about events in Mozart's life. I think it was a great subject to write a novel about and I am thrilled that I gained some new insight into a woman I had never heard of before! It was a great read and Carolyn Meyer did not disappoint me at all. I highly recommend it!

I enjoyed learning about Mozart's life and I did not realize that he had a such talented sister. What I didn't care for was all the whining the main character, Mozart's sister, did pretty much throughout the entire book. I plan to read more books pertaining to the topic.

Kids review: This is a great book to read if you want insight into the Mozart family. It's a story of a talented girl with a passion for music, who is overlooked in favor of her genius little brother, Wolfgang. When I read this book, I was amazed to find that there was another child prodigy in the Mozart family, Nannerl. It's a sad story of a girl's dreams washed away by her brother's brilliance. While her brother gets every chance to be a talented musician (traveling all over Europe), she is constantly in Wolfgang's shadow and being overlooked. While dealing with her jealousy toward her brother's brilliance, her father discourages her not to pursue music. Despite her trials, she continues to show her love of music. Through rejections of marriage by her father, Nannerl continues to find comfort in music. I love this book because In Mozart's Shadow provides the story of another genius Mozart I never knew, and it gives a great insight into Wolfgang Mozart's life. This is book about a girl who had a deep passion for music and whose brilliance was neglected.

Three chapters and about 27 pages are used to discuss the Mormons, which can be summed up as they are prepared.Based on a TV interview I expected more details, Such as a ranking of which geographic areas are most in danger. Are here areas of much older facilities likely to be difficult to repair? Actions to take if a problem occurs, rather than just "have a plan". Hard examples of major recent power outages and time it took to recover, instead of just a few examples.For instance if 1 major transformer is lost do we stay or do we go?If you know nothing about the grid and the potential for it failing, nothing about cyberwarfare and the possibilities, this might be a good introduction.It's a very easy read without a ton of details. And it shows what the government is not doing. If you remember the Northeast blackout of 2003 in which a software bug plunged 55 million in to the dark then you know the possibility of computer failure taking down the grid.

I bought this book on my phone. I have read it probably 3 times now. I usually read it when I am waiting for something--> you know the car repair, oil change, doctor's appt, airport, picking people up or for a meeting to start... I saw one negative review that there is no new information... and maybe that is right... but, the information is good. What we do with the 'awful truth' is the difficult part in the book. What do we do with the very real likelihood of something very terrible happening?A good friend is responsible for planning for a county in the event of a catastrophe. He told me of the dire realities after even a few days. I have read accounts of the things that transpired after Katrina. I have no real way to explain away what is likely, so, now it is to try and figure out how a small family makes it through and to seriously consider if it is even something that we should desire.This is a book worth reading and acting upon. If you cannot grasp that... the book will only puzzle you.

I'll pass on this one. I don't remember how far I read but I do know that the first couple just got married, after knowing each other for a few hours. There isn't really a story, or one that makes sense to me. It's just too farfetched for me and I'm not interested in reading the other three books.

Just girl meets boy.They fall in love within moment's.Then they have sex. ...within moments.And tell each other of their unending love for each other.REALLY???

Yep. These guys are all in. It doesn't matter how long they have known their ladies. Their ladies love them big , dirty and strong. The best part is. They know what word mine is.

I liked a couple of the books better then others but all were good and very sexy. This is a new author for me and I'll definitely be buying more of her books.

I so love these books by this author, they are short and steamy, a perfect escape for short time when you need a break.Nailed - Brody is a hot alpha man and is immediately attracted to the shy nerdy woman, Megan and it doesn't take him long to get her to open up to him in more ways than one. A great quick steamy read that is to the point w/o any extra frills or unnecessary drama and I loved the fact that Brody wasn't a male sl** and gave Megan the confidence boost she needed while being patient with her, drawing her out of her shell.Bounced - A short, quick, great steamy read about a bouncer, Anvil and the woman he falls for at first sight, Sarah. I really enjoyed this read which was free from excess drama and misunderstandings and I loved the fact that they embraced what they did with little to no second thoughts and made it last.Wrecked - Another short and steamy read about a tow truck driver, Rogan and the young woman he helps Layna. They meet when she calls for a sevice to pull her out of a ditch and then again when she calls him to bail her out of jail. It's then he decides he wants to keep her and make her his. She has secrets and is running away from someone but she feels safe with him and finally opens up & reveals all. An alpha man who doesn't lie & is fiercely protective of his woman and doesn't play games. Instant attraction and a woman who is better with the alpha man by her side to complete each other....refreshing read, to the point, insta love, a book you can't put down till you're done.Drilled - A hot alpha man, Graden, who says what he means and doesn't beat around the bush and the young woman, Rebecca, he promised to look after his best friend (her older brother) died. Graden is fighting his attraction to Rebecca, thinking she needs somebody better and that he is not worthy of her. Rebecca though has other plans, she has wanted Graden who is all male. When she asks him to teach her how to keep a guy, he loses it and it becomes tense between the two until finally he can't hold out any longer. But there is something he hasn't told her and that may just drive her away.I can't get enough of these stories from this author as the author has a way in a very short amount of time having you fall in love with both of the characters. The writing is exceptional and I really really enjoy that the man is not a man wh***, but is an all dirty talking possessive alpha man that makes you swoon, sigh & swoon again, needing at least 2 full glasses of ice water just to cool down from the intense and steamy steamy scenes. Not only that but little drama and what drama there is, it doesn't go on and on and on...refreshing.A perfect book to read by the poolside or beach so when it gets too hot you can cool down!!!

Bounced:This is my first book by Ms Harper & if this is her usual style then I am a huge fan already. I love a good insta-love/lust book. Anvil is a pretty awesome guy & when he sees Sarah he is blown away. He is a tough guy with a beautiful heart & Sarah is a good girl who keeps on the straight & narrow, that is until Anvil knocks her feet out from under her.Nailed:Megan has never fitted in either with her father or her peers. She is socially awkward and lives in a world dominated by the cerebral and not the carnal but when Brody comes to the house to do work for her father that changes for her. Brody is so incredibly sweet to her and instantly feels protective and wants nothing more than to keep her safe, even if its from himself but when he finds her in a compromising position all bets are off and he vows to teach her not only about the carnal but about her worth as a woman, his woman.Drilled:Rebecca doesn't have the best self-esteem but she is sweet and kind and surprisingly knows how to stand up for herself when the need arises. Graden, well, well, well... he is a what my mom would call a man's man! He lives up to his promise to his friend but in doing so changes his own life irrevocably and sets him in a direction he never thought he wanted.Wrecked:Insta-everything doesn't make it any less believable or sweet. (& of course don't forget steamy). When Lance meets Layna he figures she is trouble, what he doesn't figure straight away is how she is going to turn his life completely upside down. He knows she is running from something but just doesn't know what it is. When she trusts him enough to let him in he is furious at what she has gone through and decides then and there that she is his and nothing and no-one will ever hurt her again.I voluntarily reviewed each of these books individually in the past.

I love these books so much! Each one is a unique treat where a spirited young lady finds her HEA with a blue collar yet swoon-worthy alpha sweetheart. This author's writing style is exceptionally brilliant, with hilarious dialogue, intense chemistry, authentic situations, and genuine heartfelt emotional depth. The romances are deliciously sweet, but there's more than enough steam in these books to set your kindles on fire! Each novella is a decadent treat, one you'll want to read again and again and again. I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this set.

This is a wonderful resource for art lovers and art collectors. It is extremely helpful for aspiring art collectors. Well written, beautifully produced and easy to read and relatively inexpensive. Great to own and a terrific gift.

Good book written from a person with an art interest from NY area. The rest of the country is ignored.

Collecting art, especially the work of in-demand emerging artists, is opaque and difficult to say the least. In the book's promotional blurb it promises to reveal the "secrets of successful collectors" and offer advice on "discovering new talent and accessing the best work to getting the highest returns on investment." Unfortunately the answer to both of these problems is to hire an art advisor. And what do you know, the authors happen to run an art advisory business. It probably shouldn't come as much of a surprise but you aren't going to get any secrets or insider tips on how to get access to the best work. One bit of advice they do offer that might help you get a coveted artwork: tell the art dealer or gallery representing the artist that you plan on donating the work to a museum. Any takers? This book is probably a great promotional handout to the author's prospective clients but otherwise it's an epic fail.

This book I picked up at my library recently on the premise that, yes, I could still use some more insight on how that all works. On the cover there was a cartoonish picture of a man in an Eames chair sitting in front of tall, colorful sculpture that looks a lot like Willy Wonka's "Everlasting Gobstopper" gone out of control, almost literal eye-candy if you will. And that is all it really takes for me, unless another artist, or literary-type verbally reaches inside through the telephone and twists my arm about a must read. It has quotes in the margins for those of you with no time or attention-span to actually read drawn from interviews with collectors and stories of collectors who've done well, like John Quinn. What? You don't know of John Quinn? What kind of art aficionado are you, anyway? It is packed with photos and illustrations, again with a cartoonish humor. In it, under the topic of "The Impact of Personality" as regards artists I learned that Peter Paul Rubens was also an ambassador for the Habsburg monarchy, and helped broker peace between England and Spain when not futuristically cultivating the adjective "Ruben-esque". Talk about your Renaissance-man way out ahead of the curve before all the Renaissance Festivals! Further on, reading about developing relationships with artists it went on to say:"For avid collectors, visiting artists in their studios is an effective way to gain a deeper understanding of their praxis."This caused me concern. Getting so involved with your artist, at this point shouldn't you really be getting him or her to a dentist straight away to get that praxis cleaned out, and sent home with a prescription for some anti-biotics? Though I now know why Professor Turner was always groaning, "Praxis! Praxis! Praxis!" at the end of every life-drawing session.

Good, and well organized. So well organized that I'll use his organization to refute him point by point.

I bought this book for one of my university courses. It is very unclear and ambigous. It just addresses problems exist in the field of biotech and gen engineering. You could find better books if you are interested in these topics. BTW it can be used as a source of research since it contains almost every approaches to the topic.

The book was an interesting read, but frustrating. There was a genetic determinism about the discussion that made the author's stand feel naive. Clearly the variation in many human features are constrained to a particular range by genetics, but this does not mean that any individual can be engineered to guarantee the development a particular trait. Even extremely pro-genes books like The Nurture Assumption leave an important role for environment in human development (Harris just doesn't think parents are a particularly influential part of that environment).The gift argument is repeated throughout, but not supported very well. Sandel also discusses genetic modifications as arms races, but misses the fact that the "improvement" of human characteristics need not entail an arms race or a zero sum game. There are traits that have a value that is non-competitive. If research has found that people with a happiness score of 8-9 on a scale of 1-10 succeed most in life, it is correct to note that success in many fields is competitive. Yet, the feeling of happiness and enjoyment of life is not a zero sum game. Every human can enjoy this at the same time. If genetic engineering made us all 8-9 on the happiness scale, we would all benefit individually in our quality of life, though we would only be keeping pace with regards to competitive advantage. Again, Sandel misses this nuance and his discussions suffer from it.The part of the book I felt was worth reading was the section regarding hyper-parenting. This was a point neglected in other books I have read on the subject, such as Agar's and Glover's. Nevertheless, the other books are far superior discussions of the subject with more exhaustive and nuanced discussions of genetic engineering.I would advise against reading only this book when reading on this subject. This book should be read to offer another perspective after reading a more well rounded discussion like Glover's. As with any of the books I mention in this review, you should understand views on the role of genetics in development before reading the books. Don't expect the books to teach those details, though Agar's does contain good discussions regarding the fallacy of genetic determinism.

I bought this book as a required text for a class. Came in a good quality and was happy with Amazon services.

Sandel is a great philosopher, He challenges the notions and in the same instance make you come up with your own 'morals' when it comes to genetic engineering. I had to buy this book for a course but read it 4 times since.

Pretty great, thought challenging read.

Short essays with interesting hypothetical situations of treating embryos, I found it insightful to read this book, like an extension of the first few chapters of Justice, I found it hard to give a rating lower than 4.

At times, this book reads like a prolegomena to Sandel's "Justice: What's the Right Ting to Do" in terms of argument and some of the examples he gives to illustrate his moral reasoning, but "The Case..." is worth reading anyway - especially for those who are interested in bioethics within a broader context of Aristotelian reasoning.

I use this book at school with kids I work with. They love the dragon and his antics. I do not love the very thin paper.The hardcover versions are very cheap and paper tears easily, the paper backs have thicker paper but not title on the spine. I have 5 and won't purchase more for this reason.

I had high hopes for this book but it misses the mark by far for teaching children about self esteem and mental illness.

Super cute and helpful book!

I absolutely love these books! I can see how teachers or councilors would want to use these books for young kids with behavioral issues and I have also considered that, but my son got these for Christmas and he is an amazing kiddo but from time to time will stuffer with things especially since starting school like not thinking he's "cool enough" or "smart enough" or getting so caught up in the common idea of what life is about he forgets to be mindful and be a kid, we don't do media devices in our home but he does at his dad's and then will refuse to go outside because he just wants to do wars in his room, but having a reminder of being mindful and living in the present is so great for him. You really have to find out with each individual kid how to talk about the book while reading it in a way that the child benefits from the message in the book, as you do with all things and each individual kiddo. I'm ordering many many more of these books and will be gifting some to friends and family for all their kiddos as well.

He was formerly Principal Lecturer at Sheffield Hallam University, Sorouh Dean of Real Estate Management at the Higher Colleges of Technology in Abu Dhabi and subsequently an Associate Vice Provost for quality and curriculum development for professional courses across 17 colleges in the United Arab Emirates. He is now freelance with a variety of roles including teaching blended learning courses on the Master of Real Estate programme at the University of Adelaide, Australia.

Very helpful resource guide to valuation of property for tax abatement work.

I ordered the book as a guide for refreshing some equations and methods in the income approach that I use for reports. The book is very comprehensive and useful ....except that it is noted in the Pound system which is distracting when read.

This book is good for people who is new to the real property investment. This is for beginner level only,however, it does offer the basic formula of various type of valuation mathematic.
