I’m a huge fan of the Ketogenic diet, and have been on it for over a year, and have lost a lot of weight and learned to eat right. However, recently I have been struggling with hormonal issues, and I was told keto is not necessarily good for that. So I started to research and found this book. I really loved this cook book. I honestly didn’t even know there was a specific diet for PCOS. Or that diet even impacted your hormones. It makes total sense though and as a keto follower you’d think I’d have figured that out already right?This books starts out simple and explains what PCOS is, how it can affect your life, and how diet helps. It’s strait to the point and not heavy to read, meaning it explains it well then just moves on. Nice.Then there is the recipes. I was happy to see that a lot of them are similar to how I already cook and eat on the keto diet, just less fats. They are also very easy to make recipes, and I loved that my two toddlers enjoyed them too. We have made the Bran and Honey Muffins (delish) and the salmon cakes with Lemon aioli. Surprisingly my 3 and 4 year olds LOVED the salmon cakes! And my husband said he didn’t think it was diet food at all! With the exception of the chopped liver recipe and maybe the salmon patte I think all these recipes would be amazing!Truly a good read and addition to any cookbook collection, PCOS sufferer or not, and I highly recommend it!
I almost never write reviews but I want to make sure others know that this book is not worth your time.There are 0 pictures which makes this already cheap book absolutely boring. That's by far the least important issue but I wanted to Express my dissatisfaction with the look of the book before I get into the important stuff....1. My copy did not come with a 14 day meal plan. It's shows it's included on the cover but it is no where to be found. Pretty sure this was a new copy so not sure why it's missing.2. The book states it has detailed nutritional information. I don't understand how calories, protein, carbs and fat is detailed. That's pretty basic. And if you know as much as I do, having the dietary fiber total would be helpful because of things like my 3rd main issue with this book....3. A lot of these recipes are very high in carbs. Carbs turn into sugar so a lot of these recipes are not reasonable if you are trying to stop pcos symptoms. I have learned that you can take off the dietary fiber total from the carbs (which you can't do with this book because it's missing) but still some of these recipes are not even reasonable. For example, one recipe says it has 99g of carbs. On the nutrition plan my doctor gave me, it says no more then 20g per meal. So basically half of these recipes can't be used. They are also pretty basic so the extra carbs wouldn't even be worth wasting on trying these recipes.Don't waste your money!

At the start of the book, it gives a brief, but very detailed explanation of PCOS including its symptoms and causes. The next section explains how certain foods such as pasta, meats, and vegetables can help with the PCOS diet. The recipe section offers a variety of dishes for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Italian Baked Eggs and Banana Peanut Butter Pancakes are a few of the recipes that will get your mouth watering. Then the cookbook delves into dinner recipes such as Spinach Turkey Burgers, Oven Sweet Potato Fries, and Spaghetti Squash and Meatballs. For dessert, the book has lots of recipes for anyone with a sweet tooth, Mini Cheesecakes and Apple Crunch Yogurt Parfait, are just a few of the decadent desserts. All the recipes are easy to follow and sound like they'd be delicious, this is a good book for anyone who has PCOS and wants to maintain a healthier lifestyle.
I love the way this book opens. It starts with a breakdown of what PCOS is and how diet can impact your symptoms. It goes through weight loss, metabolism, and even fertility which was a bit odd to see in a cookbook. It is a bit validating though because it shows you're in the right place.I typically do not look at the breakfast section of a cookbook. I generally get the impression that I'd have to get up at dawn to do any of it. A ton of ingredients for such a simple meal. The first recipe is a slow cooker recipe! What?! They get me. Also, slipping fiber into every meal, I love.Here's the trick with literally anything we cook in our house. It has to be 3-year-old approved and affordable. With the exception of a shrimp dish and salmon (one day!), most of these looked good.There is even a recipe for spaghetti squash and meatballs which is awesome because someone told a keto friend of ours that they are carb heavy. They gave them to us and I am curious. So curious.I do think my favorite thing about this cookbook is that they don't seem to assume that I have hours every day to cook. Because I don't.
PCOS is an issue that affects women so it does not really affect me. Though, you never know because one of your female friends might have an issue. I also like the author’s (Michelle Thomas) other books. The good thing well at least for me is that the recipes actually cater to just a healthy lifestyle. In the introduction it discusses the importance of insulin and how a resistance to it can lead to PCOS in women. Honestly, having read Thomas’s other books, it is apparent that this book is more beholden to the author. The introduction is much more extensive than her other cookbooks and there is even a conclusion which I don’t remember being in the other ones. The 14 day plan is absent which is odd but there are some tips to aid in fertility which again does not affect me. The most relevant aspect is that these recipes are supposed to aid in boosting metabolism. So, at least there’s that.
An awesome cookbook i love that it explains why you should eat the food. It helps boost it was just an amazing cookbook.
