Great, intimate portrayal of a coach as well as a consummate father. Coach Aureima reminds me of a military father. His intensity is as prevalent as flash fire. Yet, his compassion is like an iceberg. Thoroughly enjoyed the details of the stories about his players. Equally enjoyed his depiction of the relationship with uconn vs Tenn and Geno vs Pat. Finally, as McMillan details the stories of the closeness he has with his players, this book leaves me with greater respect for Coach Geno and his players. Moreover, Bria Hartley said, through tears: "You made me the person I am today."
Really great insights into Mr. Auriemma. A lot of young people could learn from his tough-as-nails demands of his players. The book was in really good shape and came on time.
A friend had a copy so I figured - “maybe†- since my wife is a UCONN zealot. Well it turns out that this is probably the most interesting and completely fascinating books that I have ever read. A profile of meaningful leadership. Enjoy!
Great insight to Coach Auriemma's life and motivations. I was one of the legions of Geno haters for many years, but the thing is, I LOVE women's basketball. Like him, or not, you cannot argue with the consistently great quality of excellent players, who play team ball, and TEAMS he turns out in his program. I took a hard look at my bias and changed my attitude about Geno and UCONN and realized: 1. Most of his players love him, and they actually know him, so what was my problem? 2. Yeah he as an attitude and is a smart a**, like a lot of East coast guys I've known and worked with, but you know what, you never have to worry about what they are saying behind your back, because they say it to your face and I get along with them really well because of it. 3. Because I love women's basketball I should love the guy that is consistently putting out the best players and teams in the women's college arena. He also motivates them to be, not just the best basketball players they can be, but the best people. When you look at the UCONN players in the WNBA, they are the consummate team players who make the players around them better and will do whatever they can to make te team successful.So now I love UCONN, Geno and Diana Taurasi. Read the book, he's really a great guy who cares immensely about his players and the people around him.

A must read if you are a basketball fan! Geno is among the best coaches in women's basketball and possibly one of the most criticized. His success is unrivalled and this book provides examples of why.
A looking behind the scenes of a man who loves basketball but more importantly cares about the people he coaches and tries to get them to strive to their best at the game and life.Hopefully there will be another book to laud his accomplishments since this book was printed.
Bought this book for my husband who thinks Geno Auriemma is the real deal.
