About the Author
Tongo Eisen-Martin is the author of Heaven Is All Goodbyes (City Lights Books, 2017) and someone's dead already (Boostrap Press, 2015) and his poetry has been featured in Harper's and New York Times Magazine. Heaven Is All Goobyes was shortlisted for the Griffin International Poetry Prize and awarded the California Book Award for Poetry, an American Book Award, and a PEN Oakland Book Award. He is also a movement worker and educator whose work in Rikers Island was featured in the New York Times. He has been a faculty member at the Institute for Research in African-American Studies at Columbia University, and his curriculum on extrajudicial killing of Black people, "We Charge Genocide Again!" has been used as an educational and organizing tool throughout the country. He's from San Francisco.

amazing.. one of a kind voice.. get this book read it and be moved and blown open
This books has no rhyme or reason, nothing makes sense as the author jumps from phrase to phrase unrelated in bounds and leaps hoping the reader makes sense of it all, but that's not my job. The word play is weak and the imagery is too random for the metaphors to be able to adhere to each other in a coherent manner.
Tongo is a poet for the people. His imagery is powerful and profound. He hones in on capitalism and strips it naked to the point of blushing. He is the definition of poetic power the way words are wielded. Without diminishing his own unique voice, he is this generation's Gil Scott Heron. A masterful truth-teller, he speaks from the cracks of every broken stoop in America. This poetry collection will make you shout, cry, laugh, and shake you out of comfort. These poems do what poems ought to, they are " odes of strength, attack pieces, bomb, machine gun and rocket poems. Poems describing reality and methods of changing it."
