About the Author
Dr. Eugene F. Brigham is Graduate Research Professor Emeritus at the University of Florida, where he has taught since 1971. He received his MBA and Ph.D. from the University of California-Berkeley and his undergraduate degree from the University of North Carolina. Prior to joining the University of Florida, Dr. Brigham held teaching positions at the University of Connecticut, the University of Wisconsin and the University of California-Los Angeles. A former president of the Financial Management Association, he has written many journal articles on the cost of capital, capital structure and other aspects of financial management. He has authored or co-authored 10 textbooks on managerial finance and managerial economics that are used at more than 1,000 universities in the United States and have been translated into 11 languages worldwide. In addition to his academic writing, Dr. Brigham continues to teach, consult and complete research. He has served as a consultant to many corporations and government agencies, including the Federal Reserve Board, the Federal Home Loan Bank Board, the U.S. Office of Telecommunications Policy and the RAND Corp., and he has testified as an expert witness in numerous electric, gas and telephone rate cases at both federal and state levels. Dr. Brigham spends his spare time on the golf course, enjoying time with his family and dogs, and tackling outdoor adventure activities, such as biking through Alaska.

Not that you're given much choice to the textbook you buy, but I figured I leave my two cents here anyway. First of all, amazon rentals are awesome as usual. It shipped fast and it also means I'm not stuck with this horror of a textbook after the semester ends. The text itself is as dry as you possibly can get. I'm an accounting student who has gladly read through managerial and financial accounting textbooks alike, but this is somehow even worse to digest.The author goes on tangents constantly, and seemed to have just discovered what a thesaurus was when he wrote it. There's a difference between writing at a college level and using obscure words to make a sentence lose meaning. I enjoy reading, and I can read for either business or pleasure just as well, but this text makes me dread every chapter assigned. It really needs to decide if it wants to be a math textbook or a "history of finance" one, because it does justice to neither aspects of the subject.But, as I said, what choice do you have? Get the book, or fail the class.
The book contains a lot of great information, however the samples that it provides never fully aligns to problems that students are asked to solve. For an intermediate finance student or professional, this would be a good resource, however it seems more advanced than it should for an introductory financial management book.
This book is organized in a way that offers information gradually. As you read you gain more information without becoming overwhelmed. For instance, callable bonds are defined and a simple example is offered in section 3 (if my memory serves me right), and then several chapters later, callable bonds are reintroduced with more information about how to invest in them. This book's arrival was perfect timing because I am currently investigating how my family and I will invest a recent lump sum.
I bought this book for college because I had to, not because I wanted to.
This book has a lot of information in it but not very good for beginners in finance. It's kind of hard to follow but it would be very good for people who are a little more fluent in this subject.
I thought this was coming with an access code for the online content, but it did not.
I bought this book new, expecting the key code in it as well. I got it and opened the packaged, then noticed that the plastic wrapping was open. I go to look for the key code and find that it was removed from the book itself. A new book comes with key codes to Mc Graw Hill if it is new. This has to be false advertisement.
Required for class. It's okay.
